Rotator & Ruby My Dear – new split release
Rotator is back with a dirty little 7″, courtesy of Omega Warfare Records.
His track, Nobody Remix [Nuff Ah Dem Version], is everything you’d hope for from this pioneering breakcore legend. He has the snap in his kicks and breaks that are surely then envy of underground producers the world over and has more balls than most of them combined.
There are plenty of imitators to Rotators sound, but just as only Autechre can sound like Autechre and only Aphex Twin can sound like Aphex Twin, there can be only one Rotator and only he is capable of extracting such groove out of of 220bpm+ machine gun like kickers.
Here’s what Decompression Magazine had to say about this release:
“What a pairing. Omega Warfare’s latest split sees Rotator on top form, garbled syncopated vocal samples smashed over harsh amens with a masterful extended breakdown. Guaranteed to be a dancefloor smash in your favourite local dives. Ruby suits the company too, he can often seem a little too precise and intricate but this track has more of a party-centric feel to it, with ragga vocal snatches and an emphasis on a beat that you can move – rather than chinstroke to. His infamous only-downwards snare rolls even seem to have learnt to roll upwards, and the end of the track is a true thing of beauty. Great stuff, and a strongly DJ-friendly investment.”
